Recital

What is the recital?

Each year, we give our dancers the opportunity to perform in the annual Kelley Ann Dance Center spring recital! Usually held in June, our recital gives dancers of all ages and levels to perform on stage in show for all friends and family to see. Almost all recreational classes for ages 2+ will have a recital routine that they work on throughout the year with the end goal being to showcase it at our recital. Our show often features many of our competition pieces as well, and we have quite the reputation for putting on an entertaining show. It is completely optional to participate in, but definitely a fun and worthwhile experience!

Recital FAQ

Does my child have to participate?

Nope! Recital is completely optional for all of our recreational dancers. All we ask is that you tell us upon your initial registration if your child will be participating in the recital or not. The latest we need to be notified if your child will be in the show is early November as we need ample time to order costumes.

When do they rehearse?

Around December your child will begin to learn their recital routine at the studio. Therefore, it's imperative for them to have good attendance in their weekly classes so that they do not miss choreography. As we approach the day of the show, we typically have both a stage and a dress rehearsal at the recital venue to give students a chance to acclimate to the stage. Any dress and stage rehearsals are mandatory for students to attend in order to participate in the show.

What are the costs for recital?

The only required costs (in addition to your monthly tuition) for recital would be your child's costume & tights, the recital t-shirt, and recital tickets for any family or friends who would like to attend. There many optional costs associated with recital such as the recital video, recital flowers/bears, and more, but are certainly not required in order to participate.

What's your backstage protocol?

In order to keep rehearsals and the show move as efficiently as possible, we like to keep the backstage and dressing room areas as uncrowded as possible. This means no parents will be permitted to hang out backstage during the show unless they have volunteered to be a backstage mom (usually we have 2 per dressing rooms --  split up by ages 9+ and 8 & under). We give one female parent/guardian per child a wristband upon arrival so you can safely drop your child off in their dressing room, and from there they will be monitored/taken care of by staff, teaching assistants, and backstage moms. We've found this method keeps everyone safe, happy, and allows for a great show!
